Made using an old dressing gown and some dyed blankets. Extra to rug making, I have a lot of dyed cloth here.

Jaden’s Wagga Finished At Last!
Finished the boy’s Wagga! I gave him the top, patched together but not backed, for his 19th birthday in April. It’s been sitting on my table, ready for tying, for some time...
It,s around 2.2 metres square. There are two outline (embroidered) drawings he did as a wee thing, of my parents dogs. Ironbark and Pepper. Quite perfect renditions of their characters.
Happy I at least got it done before winter finishes. Oops, sorry Jaden. Xxx

Jaden's Wagga & Our Next Get Together
Rug day at Anne's in Warrandyte was the usual relaxed, lovely day among friends (minus Chris, sigh). We need to take more photo's as everyone was quite productive!![]() |
You know when you dye a heap of blanket, only to find it too dark for your hooky rug, or too green/blue...? Well, over time I had quite a bit of green I wasn't using in any current rugs. I dyed another deeper green piece and made this Wagga (follow the link for others) for my eldest grandson's 19th birthday.
The red tartan comes from a kilt I wore on constant rotation when he was a baby (and I was a young'en'). I have pieced together a back from various fabrics I have had in my collection, including some of my Dad's jeans and my Mum's tablecloth (unfinished from when she was 14 years old). These being my grandsons dear departed and ever adoring great-grandparents. THE NEXT GET TOGETHER IS AT MY PLACE (ROBYNE'S) IN THE PATCH ON THE 25TH OF MAY. Phone 0410876096 or email r.m.square@bigpond or call any of us or comment here for instructions on how to get here. 10am onward. Please come and join us! It's heaps of fun. Once you start you'll never stop, I assure you. |

Finished! And It's Only October!
Considering that Ruby's birthday was July... it's still pretty good going I think. The bulk of it was done then but I wouldn't let her see it and gave her some nice books (she's in love with Mark Ryden).
So, here are details of the quilting. It's with woollen thread (aurifil Lana 8402 which I Love, and used in my Bluebird embroidery amongst other things) and is coarsely worked. I used to tie them all but this style of patchwork suits quilting. HERE'S the rest of the Wagga, and if you want to look at all of them, go here. Oh, and, this is made from an old blanket, a length of wool found at the Op-Shop, one small (blue) new length and bits and pieces from my accumulation. The back is various old tea-towells, scraps of embroidery Ruby did as a child, vintage dresses, a skirt I used to wear all of the time, Japanese fabrics etc.
We pulled a few of these out of a wall near the Ballarat Art Gallery, probably two years ago, and now they are very happy. Our little bit of Portwenn.

Ruby's Wagga
I just have to quilt it in the seams... shouldn't take long.
The long story has a place now. I was never sure what to do with it, except stitch it. Ruby wrote it when she was 8 or 9. Can you see also "Why aren't I allowed to do enything?"... found (a long time ago) written small in a notebook. Ha ha ha! The lament of the youngest child.
Her childhood nickname was Gumboots. Here also is the tea-towell made at her primary school. She's up there near the corner.
An early attempt at embroidery.
See there a patchwork from The Stash.
Another or Ruby's early sewing experiences.
Up on the Hill's Hoist.

Rrup!!
I bought this old baby's blanket, years ago, and thought I'd copy the puppy for newest baby boy. My fella's not so muscley and really not so manly(dogly), but it's still ok. I'm sure a little boy will love it still. The One True suggested 'rrup!'.
It's so old fashioned. A proper 1950-60's pram blanket.
All from The Stash too. 10 points! Heavy woollen blanketing.
