Rug Group Day At Loch

You can see Chris's grandchildren rugs on the wall behind me.
Today Anne, Katherine and I (Robyne) took a trip to Loch for our get together in Chris's lovely home near the gorgeous hills of Western Gippsland. It's always a nice drive and this autumn weather was just perfect.
Chris worked on her big (huge) rug, clocking up hundreds of hours so far. It's going to be amazing when she at last detaches it from it's frame. Note to self: Be there when she does, with a loud hooter or some drums! And cake!
Katherine began her Magpie Rug with a lesson from Chris, and me butting in the whole time with helpful advice. I blame the cups of coffee I'd fortified myself with after the drive. And it's great to be back at Group Days such a long time away with family committments. Combo. Katherine has her newly constructed PVC pipe frame off and running too and seems to have her hooking sorted! Being a knitter, she has tension wel ingrained.
Anne Will Finish Her Hooked Carpet-Wool Rug At Some Point! Just as I Will Finish My Footy Rug! We at least work on them at our monthly gathering.
Unfortunately one of Joy's family had the bad manners to be born on this date, probably years ago, so she was forced to celebrate with them and was missing from action. A poor excuse!
I brought my new Penny Rug (just cut out) along for advice from the Gals. Who were very helpful. I couldn't see for looking anymore, to make decisions.
It's a design I have for sale on Etsy. However, my original version (as seen in the Etsy pic) was made with some inferior felt and it literally fell apart with use! I have dyed a few pieces of woollen blanket for the backgrounds and we lay it out in varous combinations. I can take bits on the train to stitch and use up some stash at the same time (bit hard with hooky's). We agreed with which colours to use, so that made me feel better. Feel free to share your thoughts! They both look good, but I'm thinking the plum-brown with the green peeking out from under will suit our bedroom. Both look good I think. We think.
It's lovely to share our food and company. We welcome any newcomers or old usuals. If you are interested, please put a comment on the blog or email r.m.square@bigpond.com.
More photo's to come too. Of all of us. xxx

Working Drawings For New Rugs

I originally thought to do a tea cosy, but a rug is better.
These are cowgirls. I've done the whole pic, this is just a detail.

I will not allow myself to begin these until a few other things are out of the way. I don't mean 'out of the way' as if they were bothersome, because it's all just so much fun you can't imagine! I love doing all of this stuff. Lerve it. I can't WAIT to get to these though... won't be long. I have to have train trip projects you see.

I'm very happy if you want to use the patterns, really really happy, but of course they're for personal use only... you know the drill.

The Top Is Done!

The back may be as complicated, that's the thing.

I knitted the Owls from the Owl Vest pattern posted on Ravelry by Jodi Haraldson. For my Mumma, who collected owls. Well, you know, she collected them years ago and had just found them and pulled them out... but it's translated into Mum=Owls and Purple. The rug wool I used was from a stach Mum, Grandma and I had. We had tons and I've only just sent it along (I know where it is too so the temptation is there). Boopy La is allergic to wool although I think we need our own Wagga in any case.
Now to clean the fluff out of every corner of the house and put the furniture back (until I start the back at least).
Again, here's a bit of blether about Wagga's.

Nearly Finished.

My fave.
Just have to choose a binding.

These pics are scans so they're not as nice as photo's. But it's late and dark... I'll get to it (I always say that).

My Old Pin Cushion, Just Washed

I bought this for not much money at a local shop a few years ago. There was "I Love You" and "You Are Special". The girl in the shop was always grumpy, surly, unwelcoming and reluctant to help and when I asked her who made the pin cushion, the reply that she had surprised me. That is until I got home... and I stuck all of my pins into the words. Very funny! Beautiful!
10 points.

Chaise Coasters

I Love my big plastic tub of pure wool, thick felt! Where can you buy it in Melbourne?? Someone said up near the Vic Market somewhere, but where?
I made two of these for the chaise because we changed the room around and stole the rug it was on for somewhere else. Now Ross thinks everything should have some.

It's Finished

But I'm not a fan... The hat fabric is from ne of Grandma's old coats. The Wagga I made with it got burnt in a fire, sadly.

Now All I Want To Do Is Make Some Potholders

I scribbled this after looking at some of doublewinky's stuff. I thought it would be suitably done ala Penny-Rug-ish? Old blankets and bits of felt? Coarse embroidery. They're supposed to be a bit scorched and grubby so I have to be sensible.
I might have to start a new Flickr group.... s'pose I should see if there's one already.
If you see or have any goodies, send me a link or a pic??? I'm on a mission. It's making me stitch and stitch the curtains without fail, because (unlike my usual behaviour, where I work on anything I want to) I will not do any pot-holders until they're finished.
Why didn't I think of them before?
P.S. If anyone makes this one, send us a pic too huh?

The Penny Rug

I first saw Penny Rugs in an old Country Crafts book I'd bought from some persistant bookclub, and found them beautiful and unusual, so when a friend gave me a large box of felt (woollen) I immediately thought to make one. Funnily enough I ended up using old blankets and scraps with only a small amount of felt, and because I didn't read any instructions (I just looked at the pictures) I didn't realise I could have shrunk the fabric. Hmmm... always impatient to get going...
I've included a picture taken at last year's Trade Show, where I displayed my own and a friend's version (Thanks Anne).

Pattern $13.20 + $1.00 postage within Australia, $3.60 to US. Currency converter here.
