The Ruggy Seat Covers

OK, here they are. I like the first (pink tabby) the best.

I want to avoid the direction I'm heading, style-wise, and need to think on it a bit.

I like him, and I love the colours, but...

Blossom. You can still get a pattern for Blossom if you email me at r.m.square@bigpond.com. For free that is.

There is minimal dyeing here, just the tan colours in the ears. It makes for a different look I feel, and may be part of what I like. I love dyeing though, so there's loads to ponder.

Foxy didn't feel as if it needed bobbles. It's quite chunky. Overall, Foxy gives a lovely warm hue to the kitchen.

Developing your own (my own) style means thinking about (and applying) what you like and don't like. I find that if I have references around me while I work (in Foxy's case it was various photo's of foxes) then I will go in that direction unless I purposely redirect my thinking.
I guess that indicates that there is a style that comes unbidden (and is therefore my own natural tendency), and a style that I seek to satisfy my brain (for example, I can truly hate my drawing style. I have always to apply discipline to avoid going to a hateful place). But it's better if I draw my picture, from whatever references I like, than refer to my drawing instead. If I get that right, the rest will follow.
But, it's not a biggie. It's not Rembrandt. It's all fun and when I say fun I mean heaps of fun. Rug hooking is a lovely thing to do.

Fox Seat Cover Nearly Finished

I've changed the eyes quite a bit.
With the very dark surrounds, you saw nothing else. Just the eyes.

Look at it in comparison, Here.
I may take out some of the red to the right underside of the right eye too.
Made using old blankets, mostly dyed. On linen.

Phoenix

I made my son Rob a Wagga (blanket) for his 21st. It almost completely perished in a house fire and I stashed the remnants, years ago. Just now, or last December at his birthday, I had the idea to cover a skateboard and this was the perfect thing to do it with. I thought. I thought he'd be overcome with emotion and I'd have to lend him my hanky (even if it was a Crinoline Lady embroidered vintage hanky that I'd want back). But he laughed and laughed and was quite pleased instead.
The pieces are stitched in situ.
The flames went over the whole piece. Being wool, it resisted burning, but some of it is quite scorched and one flower is well burnt.

The daffodil is thick and highly Trapunoed and worked in detached buttonhole.

This tweed sunflower was burnt almost all away. I had to carefull stitch through the embers.

1997 is the year the boy turned 21.

The original Wagga.

Sadly missed.

Ruffle My Feathers Shawl

I just had to buy this wool from Morris & Sons in Melbourne. So gorgeous! It has great reviews and will be perfect for my bus-waiting experiences. Quick to knit too (10ply). I know I'm a little bit naughty for beginning a new project, but hang it all it's my birthday today, so there. I bought the wool because it was nearly my birthday and I need a wrap. Anyhow, I'm talking nonsense, because I don't feel in the slightest guilty. I love Feather and Fan, or Old Shale designs.
The pink is amazing. Unfortunately, I just saw a grey and chartreuse wrap on Ravelry and may feel compelled to buy the chartreuse, which I wanted in any case.

Fox Footstool Cover

So at last I get around to posting...! Life gets ridiculously busy, but, now that I'm spending time looking after my old, old Dad, it's actually giving me some craft time. Plus, he has a big back verandah where I can set up and make dust without worrying.
Lately though, I drag Mums old, disused ironing board into the lounge room and work on my rug standing up (my preferred position) in front of the tele, where we can chat (actually I just watch my old, old Dad snooze and watch what I want, like 'Arthur 2' the other night). It's just where I used to so the ironing as a child too. Hankies, pillowslips, sheets... remember when we ironed everything?
So, Foxy is for the third foot-stool we have at mine. The other two are cats now. I printed out a heap of fox pictures and use them to do choose how to colour in. Plenty of tweaking to do yet!

No Swallow!
He's tweaking and she seems to like it!

The inner sanction, with the naughty bits as lining. Shoulda taken a pic before I put it together.
